Early warning for flood catchment areas <200km²

The early warning system developed in the framework of TIMIS flood combines meteorological and hydrological models and thus allows the generation of accurate flood early warning maps. For the first time, those models enable also the forecasting for catchment areas <200km2. The predicted flood hazard is classified into four warning levels. Thereto the current condition of the area as well as the estimates of the expected runoff are taken into consideration. The warning areas are in accordance with the administrative districts. The early warning map of Rhineland-Palatine is being updated at least once a day and is reflecting the possible flood hazard for the next 24 hours.
