Recognising hazard areas
Flood hazard maps show:
the spatial extent of floodings during flood events
the hazards due to floodings
the location of flood protection installations
The
hazard itself considers both the probability of a flood occurring and the intensity of the potential flood (
water depth * flow velocity). In the
TIMIS flood project, the degree of
hazard is classified into four
hazard stages: substantial, moderate, minor as well as residual.
