The challenge of cross-border flood protection
Seven project partners in Luxembourg, France and Germany are jointly developing the TIMIS flood information system, which will take in about one hundred rivers and streams.
Flooding is something that we have to live with, something that we cannot avoid. But what we can do is to influence the consequences of this flooding. This can be achieved by ensuring that the appropriate basis is available for planning, and that reliable forecasts and warnings are issued for both the authorities and the population at large. The Transnational Internet Map Information System on Flooding is setting out to do precisely this as of 2008. The main objectives of the project are to:
